The HSSA’s Guardian Angel Pet Protection Program was created in 2000 after the staff noticed many older pets that were surrendered by the relative of a deceased person. Often, this is not the wish of the deceased, who wouldn't have wanted their pets scared in a shelter.
That is why we have established the Guardian Angel Program - to ensure that pet owners who provide for their pets in their planned giving are ensured that their companion animals will receive a loving, warm, and safe home after their passing. The HSSA selects new homes - through your criteria - and in certain cases, monitor your pets throughout their lifetime.
Companion animals add so much to our lives and give us joy, loyalty and unconditional love. When planning for the disbursement of estates, it is vital to allow for the care and protection of your pets. Only you can make the proper decisions concerning your pet's needs. Failing to plan may put your animal companion at risk in the future - they not only lose you - but your pet may lose the opportunity to live out its natural life in a loving and caring home.
The benefit of enrolling your pets in the HSSA’s Guardian Angel Program is that, unlike an individual, the HSSA will be here far into the foreseeable future, pursuing its mission of animal welfare. As such, you may rest assured that your pet will be secure, loved and cared for, no matter what may happen.
Guardian Angel Program > How It Works |
The pet owner arranges a gift to The Humane Society of Southern Arizona in an estate plan that takes effect upon death.
The Pet Owner selects the following life care options:
1. An estate gift such as an endowment, trust fund, life insurance policy or gift annuity to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona with a minimum amount of $2,500 per pet assures that the pet will be placed with a loving family.
2. An estate gift to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona with a minimum gift of $10,000 assures pet placement with a loving family, monitored by the HSSA animal care specialists for life, plus pet health insurance - ensuring that your pet will receive the quality medical care regardless of expense.
Note: This program is designed to take effect upon death. In the case of temporary hospitalization or other short or long term situations, it is the responsibility of the pet owner to find temporary care for their pets.
By naming the Humane Society of Southern Arizona as a beneficiary in your planned giving you are guaranteed loving, attentive care for your pet when you are no longer here to provide care yourself. You have the peace of mind of knowing that your pet won't become an innocent victim of someone's inability, unwillingness, negligence or abuse.
