OUTREACH AND KID’S EVENTS TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED:

Due to staffing issues beyond our control, HSSA is temporarily suspending all our community outreach programs, Hand-in-Paw (HIP) Kids Club activities and special events.  If you are a member of HIP, you will receive a copy of the Scratching Post newsletter soon which will contain details on how your membership will be extended in order to compensate you for this temporary change in service.

HSSA hopes to resume normal operations of all programs in the New Year and we would invite you to check back at that time.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your support and understanding.

The Humane Society of Southern Arizona’s Community Outreach Department offers the largest and most comprehensive program in Arizona for children, pets and professionals. The goal for the department is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through preventative humane education for humans and compassionate animal training to help ensure that pets do not lose their homes. The department offers many free programs with others being low-cost.

Our major areas of concern include:

Through a variety of school-based, extracurricular and specialty programs, our team of humane educators reaches tens of thousands of people all over southern Arizona.  We have children’s programs for kids as young as 6, including a very active kids’ club and youth internship corp.  Our free school-based programs bring humane education right into the classroom, providing interactive lessons on everything from basic pet care to animal cruelty prevention.

With the largest anti-cruelty program in the state, our staff includes full-time and part-time animal cruelty investigators who work cooperatively with the Animal Cruelty Taskforce of Southern Arizona to stop violence toward animals before it begins.  Services through this branch of our department include professional training seminars, public outreach, law enforcement support services, emergency medical care and fostering of abused animals, and evidence collection.
