As a founding member of the Animal Cruelty Taskforce of Southern Arizona, HSSA has always taken a leadership role in combating violence toward non-human life. In 2006, HSSA greatly expanded its cruelty prevention services by establishing our cruelty prevention coordinator and animal cruelty investigator positions. These staff members are housed at our Companions For Life Center and act as conduits for public and law enforcement working to save animals from abuse.

HSSA’s animal cruelty investigators work hand-in-hand with local law enforcement, including detectives with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, Tucson Police Department, Arizona Livestock Investigations and animal control authorities, to provide a seamless response to cruelty calls.

Our program allows the public to provide information on suspected cruelty and neglect, as well as concerns about breeders, animal vendors and other related issues. Our Cruelty in Common educational program provides a variety of programs for adults and juveniles to address these concerns, including court-mandated courses for those found guilty to animal cruelty.
