Dog Days in the Desert provides children with in-depth, hands-on education
about animal care and the human-animal bond. Our curriculum- based
activities require a high level of participation from the enrolled children.
Participants will enjoy a variety of classroom activities, creative and artistic
exercises; hands-on animal care; character-building lessons and community
service projects.
The theme for this year’s Dog Days is entitled
Operation Animal: A Kid’s Law Enforcement Academy. Operation
Animal will provide unique lessons for kids interested in how animal cruelty
detectives solve crimes and protect non-humans from harm. Although
programs will be age-appropriate, due to the subject matter parents and
guardians are encouraged to think carefully about their child’s sensibilities
before signing him or her up.
WHAT HAPPENS? WHEN AND WHERE? >
Dog Days takes place at the Humane Society’s Companions for Life Center at 3465 E. Kleindale, approximately one
block from the shelter. The Center has security fences, air-cooled classroom areas, landscaped grassy yards for animal related
activities and other excellent facilities.
Included in the registration cost is a Dog Days T-shirt (additional shirts may
be available for $10 each based on availability), a Humane Society namebadge, morning and afternoon snacks (kids
need to bring their own lunches), prizes, keepsakes, educational information, a free graduation party and other goodies
distributed during the 4-week program. Sessions run daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
