· H.E.L.P.: Building One Of The Best Animal Welfare Resources In Southern Arizona >
The Humane Education Library Project (or H.E.L.P.) raises materials and monetary donations needed to keep the library current and growing. Local businesses and private individuals have assisted us for years in making this library a reality through their generous support. To date, this program has helped the Humane Society create a collection with approximately 3,000 books, videos, periodicals, games, audio programs and computer software.
The library is housed on the Humane Society grounds and is open to the public. Due to the outreach schedules of our staff, we ask that you make an appointment if you wish to use the collection. Our materials do not circulate, but may be used on site. The Humane Society offers free photocopying services for any person doing research in the library.
If you have some books or other materials you would like to donate, please bring them to the Humane Society shelter at 3450 N. Kelvin Boulevard. (We will take any books, whether they are animal-related or not.) If you would like to make a monetary donation, please fill out the form to the right. All donations are tax-deductible and we are happy to provide you with a receipt for your records. The Humane Education Library Project is 100% supported by public donations and the help of trained volunteers.
· A Short History Of The Library Project >
Over a decade ago, the Humane Society began to expand its animal shelter, education department, spay / neuter clinic, and other facilities. Among the new additions was an animal welfare library. The Education & Community Outreach Department accepted the challenge to build this library by gathering the necessary books, periodicals, videos, software collections, and other resource materials.
The Humane Society’s goal is to create and maintain the community’s most comprehensive library collection on animal welfare, behavior and training, abuse and neglect, conservation, companion animal care, veterinary medicine, etc.
In mid-2006, the library moved into larger, permanent quarters at our Education & Cruelty Prevention Resource Center located at 3402 E. Kleindale Road, just one half block south of the Humane Society main shelter. The library is open by appointment to schoolchildren, educators, and the general public. To make an appointment or learn more about the library, please call 520.881.7408 or email Marsh Myers, Director of Education & Cruelty Prevention at mmyers@hssaz.org.
