The Education & Cruelty Prevention Department has a new facility! Would you like to help "grow" our new resource center? Find out how you can help!

The Humane Society of Southern Arizona's free educational programs reach over 20,000 people each year through classroom visitations, special events, summer programs, internships, volunteerism, literature and resources. Humane Education is an invaluable tool in building strong, responsible members of our society. If your school does not currently have a humane education program, contact us for details.

· About Our Programs >

Hours of Operation: Outreach programs (including shelter tours) are available during our department’s regular business hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. All programs must be scheduled in advance with departmental staff. Please remember that our outreach schedule can book up between 2 and 6 months in advance. The Education Department is normally closed on Saturdays, Sundays and major holidays.

Scheduling A Program: Please schedule early to ensure our participation in your program or event. To schedule, call 520.881.7401, during regular business hours. Departmental staff are frequently away from their phones but will return all voicemail messages.

Special Events: Frequently, the Education & Community Outreach Department is asked to participate in various fairs, seminars and similar special events organized by outside individuals or agencies. Requests for these events should be directed for review to the Education Events Specialist at 520.881.7406.  See page 10 of our Educational Outreach Programs brochure for more information.

Out-of-Town Events: Humane Society personnel will travel throughout most of southern Arizona to provide education and outreach. Due to the obvious restrictions on time and resources, however, these excursions must be scheduled well in advance of the program and may require additional planning. Please call for details as requirements (including possible fees) may change for each out-of-town trip.

Community Service Programs: Service programs are a mandatory part of most Humane Society outreach programs, but many schools and agencies like to organize benefits for homeless animals as part of a special program. If you would like a list of popular service project ideas, download our booklet at the top of this page.

Program Etiquette: It is the responsibility of the requesting instructor, counselor, organizer and/or adult chaperons to ensure that all child participants are prepared for their program. A confirmation packet will be mailed to you and will outline what materials and facilities we will need. The inability to provide the necessary assistance may result in a program’s termination. Organizers are requested to schedule their program personally.

Live Animals: The Education & Community Outreach Department does not normally use live animals in our presentations as they frequently cause distractions for both the instructor and the audience. If you would like to arrange for an animal visitation to your school or agency, contact the Humane Society’s Pet VIP program at 520.795.6225.
