The Companions for Life Center training staff is dedicated to improving the relationships between pets and their owners.

Many dogs that end up in shelters like HSSA have little or no obedience training.  In some cases, dogs at our shelter are already displaying inappropriate behaviors when potential adopters take them out to visit.  This program was designed to make these dogs more adoptable, reward those who adopt these “Hounds with Hope” and ultimately, help these dogs and their new owners become lifelong friends.

The Hounds with Hope program focuses on dogs that are already up for adoption but are potentially difficult to adopt out due to behavioral issues that the dog is already displaying.  For example, a large dog that jumps up on people when they take it out to visit is likely going to be difficult to adopt.  The program provides these dogs with some training in basic obedience through time spent with CLC training staff, and gives the new adopter a discount on future training at the Companions for Life Center.

The Hounds with Hope program also provides hope to adopters that these behaviors can be improved through positive reinforcement training.
