Mature animals at the HSSA shelter are often overlooked because cute and cuddly puppies and kittens tend to receive the most attention from visitors. In an effort to call attention to our mature animals and increase their chances of adoption, we have developed the Classic Cats & Canines program.

Mixed breed dogs or cats, age 5 or older, can be adopted into a new and loving home for just $40 plus a dog licensing fee. (This discount cannot be combined with any other promotion or adoption discount.)

Benefits to adopting a senior pet include:

• They give lots of love and will bond with a new family
• They are more likely to be housebroken, litterbox trained, and know basic obedience commands
• They have calmer, more mellow dispositions allowing them to focus and learn more quickly
• There is no need to endure chewing, scratching, and housebreaking stages
• They still have many years of companionship and love to give, and have less demands for time and attention as compared to puppies or kittens
• Most diseases associated with old age can be treated or controlled
• What you see is what you get – their size, temperament and personality is already developed
